The Brothers Skywalker

I thought, after viewing, 's illustration of Ben Skywalker [link] that it would be kind of cool to draw a Expanded Universe meets Alternate Universe of Luke's kids, well okay just his sons (the one he has with Mara EU and the two with Lana AU) So this is what came out.

From left to right is Justin, Deven and Ben (though why Luke didn't name his own EU son after his real father or after the man that raised him is beyond me. He spent more quality time with Yoda then he did with Ben so go fig... ) As I'm sure you all know that I don't read the EU. Still I love Luke and so I must draw his EU son with Mara.

Not knowing what he looked like I used Amiry's illustration of Ben to help give me a guideline, with her permission of course. I used the uniform that she drew him in and found some really old photo refs I had of Mark Hamill. And so with uncounted hours, which stretched into days, and several used prisma colored pencils I finished it.
I have to say that I am very happy with the way Ben turned out. He really came to life for me as I was laying down his base colors. I love his eyes. I made them a kind of peacock blue/green. The only thing I'm not terribly happy with is his hair style. For some reason it just did not want to work out for me. I was going for the Anakin Skywalker untidy look and well this is what I ended up with. Not knowing Ben's personality I gave him a typical farm boy look of sweetness that his father once had. His stance is a little more easy going than his AU brothers.

Ben sports Luke's first lightsaber, which I'm told was given to Mara by Luke So I guess in a way it's really his mother's lightsaber, which is funny because Justin is sporting his mother's lightsaber too (though it may look simular to Luke's first saber it is not.) Look closely at the differences, I'm quite pleased with that. Justin's saber is modled after the Graflex that my husband gave me in the line for RotJ, the day we met.
I'm also quite proud of how Justin and his little brother Deven turned out. Creature makes it his task gaurding the youngest Skywalker son, as Deven is a quiet, somewhat shy person, who manages to find himself in some of the worst situations (quite by accident mind you.) He doesn't go out of his way to find adventure. Adventure usually finds him. I think it actively seeks him out really.
